This presentation is entitled “We Are in This Together—Don’t Get Stuck on the Elevator”: A discussion of the mental health impacts of COVID-19 in the actively aging community. The COVID-19 crisis is worrying many people, particularly those in the actively aging community.
While the practice of self-isolation and social distancing continues, daily information is provided that may be frightening and overwhelming. The ways this information is processed could have negative impacts on our mental health. Although many things seem beyond our control, there are steps that can be taken to manage the impacts to our mental health, due to self-isolation, social distancing and the many changes we all have been forced to make because of the COVID-19 crisis.
This discussion will identify obstacles which impact overall mental health, as well as strategies we all can practice to strengthen an individual’s long-term mental health.
