Videos are presented to assist you in an emergency when you may not have a resource to show you what to do, but it is a good idea to learn and practice these BEFORE an emergency happens.

MANUALLY OPERATING A GARAGE DOOR

In case of a power loss, or a broken mechanism your garage door will not work using a remote control so it is a good idea to learn how your garage door operates manually. This can be very important if you need to evacuate quickly, or put your car inside the garage in a pending storm.

Even if you may not be able to do it yourself, you can direct a neighbor or a friend to help you, so it is always a good idea to know how. Basically, you need to release the door from the chain drive, and manually lift it. Below is a video that shows manual operation of a garage door, as well as reconnecting everything (very easy!) when the power is restored:

* Important Note*

Once you have opened the door, and when it is safe to do so, remember to re-engage the locks to ensure the garage door cannot be opened from the outside to prevent unauthorized persons from entering your garage.
